Always interested in tourism. And these days, increasing interest in northern Canada's industry. Here's a brochure I developed for Oak Lake Lodge in northern Ontario. Art direction. Copy writing. I love the work.

Indian Residential Schools

Former Indian residential school (IRS) students took the government of Canada and churches to court. Their cases eventually led to the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement which sought to repair the harm caused by residential schools. McClay Design worked closely with Anish Corp. to focus and highlight their current service offerings, which included assistance to Indian residential school survivors and their families in processing their applications. Here is the result.

BDC’s SOAR Magazine

McClay Design developed and produced This French/English flip-book style magazine for BDC (Business Development Bank of Canada), published four times a year with a special edition in the fall to coincide with E-Spirit, a business development competition for Aboriginal Youth in Canada. Since it's beginning, the magazine saw two complete redesigns, with the most recent (above) following BDC's current brand. Role: Creative direction, design and copy writing.  

Farmland Ag Services

A logo for agronomist and entrepreneur John Sawatzky's new start up, Farmland Ag Services, in Portage la Prairie. Package included postioning statement/tagline, vehicle signage.

Stonewood Elk Ranch

Stonewood Elk Ranch was a retirement venture for Merv and Lou Farmer. Located near Stonewall, MB, their family owned and operated elk ranch turned out to be a labour of love and more full-time than expected. Up to the challenge and business savvy, the Farmers developed elk products to sell locally, nationally and internationally.

Elk jerky became a passion. Still working through the Food Canada process (one that lasted years), Stonewood Elk Ranch enlisted McClay Design to develop packaging for their new flavours: Barbecue and Sweet and Sour.

As a specialty product, Stonewood's Elk Jerky would have to stand apart from the rest of the cartoony packaging in the jerky category. And for the Farmers, the final iteration (above) had the problem solved.

Partial payment included one four-litre bucket of Barbecue and another of Sweet and Sour. Absolutely fantastic. Grab your own package at Cabela's in Winnipeg.

Lighthouse Mission

I recently had the opportunity to help Lighthouse Mission with their rebrand. The Lighthouse has a rich history and holds the unique distinction of being the first mission of it's kind in Winnipeg. Opening it's doors as a soup kitchen during the Ist World War, the Lighthouse, new director Sean Goulet's vision was to recapture that all but forgotten past. The project needed to somehow rekindle that same spark that brought people off the street and out of the cold, to share a hot meal and swap stories. Located in an old warehouse and storefront on Main Street in Winnipeg's core area, Lighthouse Mission continues to reach out to those in need. Speaking of the hardships, poverty and hopelessness facing the people he meets daily, Sean didn't hide his passion, tearing up in conversation. To him, every face has a name. Every face has a story. To him everyone matters. It was a pleasure working with Sean. His passion and energy for those less fortunate are unmatched.
