A Book Review + What’s Next?

Most people want to do something that gets them out of bed in the morning, something they love to do, that makes a difference in other people’s lives. At least I do.

Unfortunately I think most of us settle for less.

  1. We worry about failing.
  2. We worry about succeeding.
  3. We obsess about perfection.
  4. And we procrastinate.

I  usually have several books on the go at any given time. At the beginning of each new year I find myself adding a couple more to the stack of  biographies and business books I have on the shelf and close at hand. This year proved no different.

Except for one thing.

There was a book I couldn’t put down. The book itself was a quick read. I found that I read and reread chapters before I even finished it for the first time.

It’s called Platform Get Noticed in a Noisy World, by Michael Hyatt. It’s a practical guide to help get you, your business or your product get out in front of the people that matter.

There are many simple, straightforward and actionable ideas packed within it’s pages. I found myself  taking notes and making the following list of things I’m being intentional about this month.

  1. I will blog at least twice a week. Wednesday and Fridays. No matter what.
  2. My focus will be on small business marketing ideas and strategies. I will also showcase current work.
  3. I will launch an opt in subscription based email newsletter, the first one will go out March 1st.

A recent article I read argued that there are no experts anymore, just learners. I agree – and this year, more than ever, I intend to be a learner and a mentor, to help my clients solve their marketing and communications problems.  You certainly don’t have to come along, but I want to invite you to join me in discovering what happens when we step outside our comfort zone and mean business about our business. Let’s do it.
